We have big plans for today! I’m going with Kumiko, Lars and two of her friends to Helsingor, just across the ferry boat into Denmark. The plan is to do a bit of shopping and have lunch. Stefan and his dad will take the kids across to Denmark as well, and they plan to visit a museum or two.
The girls leave early, around 9:20 so we can have a bit of rest time in the afternoon. Lillian is very disappointed that she isn’t going with the girls. She’s getting emotional this week, and I wonder if she feels something about the move or if it’s more about finally being around all these other people who love her.
Lars, the girls and I drive to Helsingborg, where we get on the ferry to Helsingor. The boat ride is so nice. We each have a coffee and a weinerbrod.
Once off the boat, Lars guides us up to the main walking street in Helsingor where shops have set their wares out on the street. It’s a great way to lure people in because I definitely stopped and looked at more things than I would have otherwise. We meander down the street going in almost every store. I buy a sweater to wear over the one I have on because it is surprisingly colder than it has been all week. Noa Noa is the big hit of the trip. It’s a beautiful Swedish clothing shop, and I think each of us finds something we love. Kumiko and I settle on the same sweater vest and figure we can both buy it since we don’t even live on the same continent.
Kumiko asks a shop owner for a great smorrebrod place for lunch. Smorrebrod is a traditional danish open-face sandwich. We find it a few blocks away, and it’s super cosy.
We call it a day, not wanting to get too worn out. It’s been such a nice girls’ day.
Back at home we hear all about the guys’ day with the kids. They took the same ferry boat to Helsingor and visited the Maritime Museum. They didn’t stay long as the exhibit was a bit strange, but the kids were really happy to find some trampolines up on the roof!
Then they went to Louisiana, an awesome art museum in Denmark, where the kids got to mold clay and paint it. They had an amazing time.
When we’re back home we get to admire their creations! Lillian made several bathtubs for Nana. Stefan made one of the two kids sculpting.
We only have a half hour to relax before heading out again. Our friend Johanna invited us for dinner at her house in Helsingborg tonight! Stefan’s parents are babysitting so we can have some quality time together. Really nice.
Stefan, Kumiko and I drive to Helsingborg and find Johanna and Alex’s apartment. It’s beautiful, with a view of the water from the balcony! We sip champagne and yummy treats she’s prepared, including mini toast skagen (one of my absolute favorite foods), meat and cheese.
We all walk to a local place for dinner. The food and beer are very good, but the company is the highlight for sure.
